When I was working for the California stone fruit marketing order during the height of the Atkins craze and got copies of cookbooks our recipes got featured in, one of the cookbooks had a recipe just like this one - meat crust pizza. As I remember, it was a ground beef and sausage mixture in a pie pan topped with pizza sauce, pepperoni, and cheese. We passed the book around the office, and even the serious meat eaters had to admit it looked horrid. I think it could be accomplished appealingly, but that version wasn't.

Be sure to make the meat rim high enough and firm enough so that it will prevent the meat juices from bubbling over.

But really, isn't this just a meatloaf in the shape of a pizza?

That's what I was thinking. Hamburger meat with tomato sauce spread over the top of it equals meatloaf, to me.

Oh, my! Five whole mushroom slices? Let's not overdo it now. What that meat-za really needs is more meat! Layer on some pepperoni, sausage, and bacon! Oh, and definitely use the process cheese. Mozzarella sounds like something eye-tal-yan.

I know, right? And they're not evenly distributed, so 3 people max are getting those mushrooms.

I'm not sure I'd want to eat a pizza made with tomato soup. ick

He's amazing and so much fun. I have been to many of his live shows (mainly, he shows old slides and provides hysterically funny commentary). If you ever get a chance, go see him.

That is not an appealing photo of the meatloaf-pizza. It may have helped if they had shredded the cheese and sprinkled it around the pizza instead of putting three slices of cheese on top. Basically, make it look more like a pizza.

Actually, the meat-za doesn't sound too bad, to me. I'd try it.

That looks more like a demented meatloaf than a pizza. And what's up with the stingy amount of mushrooms? Are they afraid it'll overpower the lake of tomato soup in the middle? O_O

As gross as this sounds, I'm kinda tempted to try it.

Very thin round meatloaf. I guess it's an interesting variation on the theme, but on the whole, no thanks. You can have my share.

It's not so bad, people. I got my mom to make it once. It's basically a meatloaf casserole, no big deal.

So you're saying it's climate change, not global warming?

It still looks like the worst white-wash of a relatively simple meal. I remain terrified.
