It's funny how Carson was always thought of as being such a funny and personable guy that he would probably be the life of any party, right. Wrong! Turns out he was a total wallflower at parties and avoided social functions whenever possible. His on-screen persona was very different from who he was in real life. So drinking alone with no one but a dog for company is pretty accurate.
