Remember these?

(Unfortunately there was some damage to the orginal image. *sigh* From National Geographic, July 1958)

I miss phone booths; the only close approximation we have nowadays is that in some upscale restaurants they have an alcove where you can take your cell phone so you don't disrupt the other diners.

Heh, I was going to make the same crack! ;) I like that even as far back as the '78 film there was a phone booth joke because the old-fashioned ones were starting to go out of style even then.

He'd be okay in London since they still keep the red phone kiosks around for nostalgic reasons. :D

There's probably more of those red booths here in the U.S. than old-time American booths. You usually find them in or around British-style "pubs" (which are basically just bar-and-grill restaurants with British-y décor). They usually don't have a phone in them and are locked to keep people from doing nasty stuff in them. :P

What would occur if he changed in a police box?

If he changed in a certain blue police box, he might find a Doctor and maybe a few companions.

Nowadays, its fun to look for payphones when you're out and about.

What does a call from a payphone cost, these days?

I must live in an antiquated city because I see a lot of phone booths, usually in the poorer parts of town. Makes sense I guess. The receivers always smell strongly of spit and the booths seem to double as trash receptacles, but it's nice to know I have an option if my phone dies while I'm out.

I already own an old payphone. I would absolutely love to have a phone booth too, even though I've really no place to put on indoors. Ah well

I remember seeing people taking refuge in phone booths when there were sudden downpours! Heck, I did it myself a few times! :)

I hope they never stop having public phones. Not everyone can afford to own a cell phone, these days, and they do come in handy.
