Okay, seriously, was it normal in "the old days" for men to hang around together in their jammies or underwear? There sure seem to be a lot of ads showing them doing it.
And the days of all the Cannon towels and Ivory soap "men showering together" ads. There was a time when men who liked each other could actually TOUCH each other. :( EXAMPLES (http://www.buzzfeed.com/mjs538/35-portraits-of-vintage-affectionate-men)
It became "masculine" to impute (note the criminal connotation) homosexuality to men who deviated from a very sterile norm, and even more foolishly, to impute homosexuality retroactively onto straight men by judging them against current standards. True, it's doubtful that a show like Starsky And Hutch would have been green-lighted today though a lot of people thought it was pretty gay even back in the '70s. ;)
Ah, okay, that makes sense. They want to show more than one style of pajama, so they have to show more than one man wearing pajamas (or underwear or whatever.)
Heh, not that I don't think there were some gay admen who were having fun with their subtext going over the heads of most people, but since gays were rendered invisible in society, men and women were the de facto couplings, and no way could unmarried people be seen cavorting in jammies together! Or even married ones. ;)
