A lovely DC-6 of a proud airline long gone.

1950 ... the flight to unpronounceable!

And all I can think is South Park.

In the 70s, we had a neighbor who was a pilot for Braniff.

I can't think of Braniff without thinking of the first couple of seasons of "South Park" ending each episode.

Berths? Sleepers???

Holy crap, how the airline industry has fallen. :(

Now you're lucky to get a seat you can fit in and not be crippled from pain when you arrive at your destination. (I'm 6'5" so airline seats suck for me)

Yeah, but it costs less to fly than it does to take the bus when you travel more than 1000 miles. I save my luxury money for dinner when I arrive.

I flew from San Francisco to Sydney. Fourteen hours. After that, everything is a short flight.

To be fair, I'm 5'7" and skinnier than I used to be. I'm not hitting the bulkhead with my skull.

:) Try flying from NYC to India via Europe. 25 hours with lay overs. You pretty much qualify for zombie status when you land.

I fly LA to Sydney and back twice a month and oddly you get quite used to it.

Yeah, I think they went belly-up in the '80s.

I remember a reference to the failed airline in a Simon & Simon episode so it must have been the '82 failure.

The 82 failure was the real one. The other two incarnations were other entities trying to capitalise on the unprotected brand.

That sounds right. I knew some girls in high school whose father was a pilot for Braniff and I remember when that happened. After that, I also remember the girls complaining about how their family never had any money anymore. Their family still was doing a lot better than mine was so I didn't feel too sympathetic.

Shouldn't it be CHIB*A*LBLIMBUE? And is that anything like Xibalba, the Mayan Underworld? :D
