"Sewer Germs," don't scare me, but I still consider Draino to be frightening stuff to have around. When the drain gets clogged and all else failed I get using it, but I am afraid to take it home.
Drano is some scary stuff... especially the crystal form!
I had never used it before (in crystal form) until I... you guessed it... tried the old wives' tale about mixing it with your pregnant pee to determine the sex of your baby. OMG I did it one time (the pregnancy in question is now a nearly 15 year old girl) and that was the last time I ever did!
It was the most horrible, scary, stinking stuff I've ever seen. I can't even tell you what it predicted, since I ran outside and dumped it out so fast. I was seriously afraid it would explode!
So how about plugging your sink when you do the dishes? If you're that worried about it, you could also pour some boiling water down the drain first. The bacteria grows back so fast you would have to put Drano down your sink every time you used it. I guess that was the idea.
I did actually have a clogged kitchen sink yesterday and I dreaded the idea of using my chemical drain opener. What was worse is that the sink was backing up into my dishwasher and running out onto the floor! I was afraid the drain opener would just run out and be a nightmare to clean up safely and I was worried it might damage my dishwasher. I suspected it might be a grease clog so I tried boiling water. It didn't open the drain, but I was able to tell where the clog was by touching the pipes. It wasn't far down at all and I knew I could loosen it with a wire or something. We have very few wire coat hangers, but my son did manage to scrounge up one for me and it did the trick! Trailer trash ingenuity saves the day again! :D
