To me the whole ad campaign is confusing. The double-decker cars are pretty comfortable, though, and they have the nicest washrooms. (relative to the rest of the CR so ...)

Walls of people! Free extra padding for when the train stops and starts suddenly. Saves money putting hanger straps on the trains.

The lower level has chairs facing one way, the upper deck the other way. What's the benefit of that? It's as if half the carriage is totally wasted. And have you ever travelled sideways? VERY uncomfortable. If that's was the future, no wonder trains went the way of the dinosaur. TERRIBLE design.

Yeah, traveling sideways doesn't sound too comfortable. I'd think you'd get monumentally motion sick staring out the windows.

With any luck it remained just a design, and wasn't actually put into practice.

I guess sideways wouldn't be too bad when the train was moving at speed. Going in and out of stations, however, you'd be lurching all over the place. Not fun.

Trains really should have outdoor decks. Didnt the older, steam trains use to have them?

They do in Professor Layton and the Curious Village. I'm not sure how accurate that is as a reference though.

I hate double decker trains with three stairs (down/up/down or up/down/up) instead of two (up/down), they're so narrow, I don't get it.
