Not a contest entry, but I was inspired by the latest post to look up a couple of old Western Airlines TV commercials. I found one with special celebrity guests!



This is a very short one featuring the cartoon bird I remember so well, which means I think it's from the '70s.

This one I'm sure I never saw, because I would have remembered it:

My first airline flight was on Western Airlines from Phoenix to Denver. I was 5.

I've seen the Shatner/Nimoy ad before and I thought about reposting it the other day in honor of his 81st birthday. It's so delightfully cheesy.

My first flight was when I was six months old, or so I'm told, so I'm not sure what the carrier was. But the flights I remember taking as a kid were always Western. I used to fly from L.A. to Seattle by myself to see my great-aunt. Not sure kids even fly alone anymore.

It is cheesy! I can't believe I didn't see it at the time but as I said I'm sure I'd remember.

They can fly alone from a certain age and there's all kinds of rules about what age they have to be before they can take connecting flights and so on. I'm just glad I'm not involved in a long-distance custody situation because I would HATE putting my kid on a plane alone today!

Exactly. At the time I thought flying alone was a blast but I can't imagine wanting a kid to do it now. (I never did have to catch a connecting flight though.)

Western was a great airline. They merged into Delta in the 1980's
