Really, when I saw the Ferrero logo, there was only one thing it could be in my mind. God, I fucking love Nutella. I would happily die drowning in a giant jar of the stuff.

I'm addicted to nutella. To the stage where if I have a jar of it at home, it's practically inhaled by me. Will power - huh it's non existent for me when it comes to nutella.

Thanks for the link to the article. It doesn't really explain Gianduja very well, so here's a linke to the Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gianduja_%28chocolate%29) description. It's basically a type of bon-bon made from a mixture of chocolate and hazel nut, but solid, like a Hershey's kiss. It's common in Northern Italy and takes its name from a character in the traditional Commedia dell'Arte, which also brought us Pulcinella and Arlecchino (Harelquin). Ferrero's innovation was to make it spreadable, hence the emphasis on its creaminess in the original name.

The top ad puts a lot of emphasis on the caloric value (up to 5100 calories -- per jar, I guess) of the product. This was still not long after WW II and its shortages, so there was a lot of interest in making sure kids got plenty of high energy nutrition.

Translation of the two lower ads:
#1: If my mom has her recipes, I have my own, too: bread and Nutella.

#2: From the cold of Alaska, Yuky says "[Eskimo script]." and you?
Ferrero Nutella is the spreadable cream that has the most friends in the world.

I love that the ad on the right has actual Inuit text in their own alphabet.

I knew it was Nutella as soon as I saw the name Ferrero on the jar. I could happily live on that stuff, if only I didn't have to worry about my cholesterol... :(

Mmmmmmm, Nutella!

I used to buy Gianduja bars here in NZ about 15 years ago; also dead yummy.

I thought Nutella, too, but I couldn't think of why. I guess it was the Ferrero name. Nummy stuff, but you sure wouldn't see them tout its high caloric value today. Childhood obesity or obesity in general was not as big an issue then.

Also, the woman on the left who is about to be crushed by the giant jar seems pretty nonchalant. Good for her. I hope I will be as cool should I ever find myself in that situation.

I dunno. I kind of think they're cheering on the jar. "Look at her and her fancy handbag! DIE, BITCH!"

I think it's actually a shopping bag.

"By the Power of Nutella, I become Supercrema!" And then her apron turns into a cape as she pushes back the enormous jar by harnessing the 5100 calories of chocolatey energy inside.
