LeadPaint 28Feb1907

This advertisement from the February 28, 1907 issue of the Watonga Republican (Watonga, Oklahoma) stresses "Every keg which bears the Dutch Boy trademark is positively guaranteed to be absolutely Pure White Lead made by the Old Dutch Process"
From the Harvard Business School website:

"The National Lead Company, now known as NL Industries, began business in Philadelphia in 1772. Several lead manufacturers banded together and incorporated as the National Lead Company in 1891. The company has been well known for its white-lead paints, sold since 1907 under the Dutch Boy label."

Gee honey the kids are dumb as bricks but oh my !!! Look how white the walls are !!!

Geez. Kinda makes you worry about the things that are being marketed and used on a daily basis now that people will look at in horror in 50 years. D:

It's so tasty, too! When it starts to flake off, you can just peel and eat the chips.

The painter in the top illustration is already so addled he's painting his pants (or about to).

The whole "kids eating lead chips" thing and the dangers of lead paint are in the process of being debunked. New studies show a link between urban children's learning problems and the use of unleaded gas. It's possible the whole "eating paint chips" was something of an urban legend, and that real culprit was a combination of open windows and leaded gas fumes in a dense urban environment.

As long as you don't eat the paint, you should be just fine. Speaking of things people used to put on their skins, don't forget arsenic! Wasn't there an ad here recently that displayed arsenic soap?
