I made this a couple of weeks ago with lime gelatin. It was magical. And a little hard to get out of the can, I definitely had to cut the bottom off and push it through. But so, so pretty!

BRILLIANT. Perfect for the lazy half-assed person like me! I would try this on canned peaches; while it wouldn't be so pretty, I like the taste of peaches better.

I'm thinking that if you made the jello with the pineapple juice that you pour off instead of water, it would be even better!

I'd be concerned that the extra sugar, etc., in the packing solution (aren't most fruits packed in syrup, rather than water?) would keep the gelatin from setting correctly.

Good point! Well, I'm about to make this now and I think I'll take your advice and just use water. Thanks!

I've mixed water with the juice from canned fruit to make jello for years and never had a problem. It's worth trying, even the results do turn out a little messy (it will still taste good).:)

Wait, wait, wait ... I thought pineapple contained an enzyme that prevented gelatin from setting?

Is it just fresh pineapple, maybe?

Date: 2012-03-04 05:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] almond-cakes.livejournal.com
Yes, only fresh or frozen pineapple ruins the set of jello.

Triple win for weird, yet tempting even for jello curmudgeons--and a nice layout on the ad.

Somehow I missed this one or I would have voted for it. Looks like something you would find on Pinterest (in fact, I think I might just put it there!) It also looks like a fun thing to do with kids. My only concern is that so many cans nowadays have those bottoms that are made for stacking, not for cutting open.
