1. What the hell was Balsam doing in hair stuff? Did they mean like balsam wood? What?
2. Aaaaugh, you can't repair split ends. You can temporarily glue them back together, but that's it. You have to cut them off. Do hair products still advertise that they can repair split ends?
gluing them together was just fine and yes, many ads do say that today. gluing a broken thing together is a "repair", technically, if it holds for a while. ;D
It's also an old fashioned term that used to get thrown about a lot in quasi-medical products/ cold cures (e.g. Friar's Balsam), at least in the UK. I think it survived because it implies that it's good for you but isn't covered by the regulations about claiming something is 'medicine' or a 'cure'.
