I didn't know Anne of Green Gables had one of those! (Doesn't she look a lot like Megan Follows?)

I'm wondering how a stove top that really heats could be completely safe unless it didn't heat up very much. What was the deal on those?

This blog entry (http://crazybutable.com/zateraul/2009/12/17/511/) says that the stovetop heats by opening vents that let heat escape from the oven, where there's a 100-watt bulb that does the baking, as in the Easy-Bake oven. I can't imagine it would let you actually do much cooking.

I found a couple TV commercials for this line:

And I think it's worth noting that by the time I was an adult in the 90, "Suzy Homemaker" was a bit of an insult. I had it applied to me (behind my back) by a woman who was a student admin in my boyfriend's grad program and was jealous of my relationship with him. My apparent crime? Cooking the Mediterranean food for our then-annual "Gyroscope" party from scratch.

Yeah, of course since Women's Lib had come and gone, it was considered degrading to be the "queen of your home." Still,, when I was a kid in the 60s, I really wanted a Suzy Homemaker oven and my mom refused to get me one. I did learn to cook on a real stove and oven, though.

That Suzy Homemaker oven really resembles the Holly Hobbie oven I had as a kid.
