Read a brief history of medicinal creosote HERE.  These days, it's used to preserve railroad ties, but back then it did everything, even "cure toothaches like magic".  I also love the old pricing.

The posts under our beach house were covered with that when I was a kid to preserve them. Ack gack guh...and what would your breath smell like?? That shit smelled AWFUL!
