Oh, absolutely. But the way it cuts her off just past the narrow part of her waist, making her look like a fluffy rectangle? Well, let's just say I wouldn't wear something which hit me there.
I think the reason it looks awkward is because of what she's wearing under it. No doubt they chose something light for contrast, but I think probably it would look better over something dark with clean lines, and close-fitted gloves. These half-coats were meant to cover bare shoulders of an opera gown or such.
this kind of idea - http://www.fotosearch.com/CLT003/r858/ - although a few years later.
I thought it actually looked quite nice. The biggest problem I have are the slouchy gloves showing off that bit of skin between the fur and the gloves.
Then again, I like fur and own pelts. If I lived somewhere horribly cold I would wear it.
It's not the fur part I thought was unflattering - if I lived in a cold place, I'd be all over fur (I live in the SF Bay area. I wear wool in ... summer in SF, because it's cold and damp there/then, and wool in "winter" for the same reason, but it's not cold here. Not really.)
I just don't like the way the bottom of the body and sleeves are exactly the same length and that they both cut her off at the widest part of her hips, so she looks sort of like a fluffy rectangle.
Eh. Maybe it's just that my figure doesn't support CoCo Chanel! *grin*
Umpa lumpa doopity doo. Bergdorf's got an ugly fur coat for you.
Is that her purse in her right hand? The angle makes it look like she's got a gun wrapped up in a newspaper or a towel or something, like she's getting ready to make a hit.

Apparently she loved it, though.
