Guaranteed to snag your stockings in under a minute, but so darn glamorous.

And thus, plastic seat covers were inspired.

But it's a lovely ad.

I love the ad. Dramatic angle of the car, the shimmering abstract background, the placement of text on the highlight.. very sleek n chic.

Driving through Jamaica Plain on Saturday I saw a woman in a gold lamé jacket...

LOL, if you take the accent mark off, it just says "lame."

"She wanted folks to think she was real style and class, but she was still just a dame who couldn't do any better than flashy notions...like lamé seats in a '56 De Soto."

I thought this was a car ad at first, but it's a thread ad. I wonder why they don't show the interior since that's the whole idea. I'm pretty sure most people in 1956 knew what a De Soto looked like. I have to think there was a reason this didn't catch on other that it was a bit too "precious" for most people. I can't imagine lamé wearing well.

It seems it'd be like riding on a shiny gold Brillo pad. Isn't lame kind of snaggy and scratchy?

It just says the car's upholstery is "high-lighted" with lamé, so presumably there were just some threads of it or borders/decorations of it in the car, not solid lamé fabric. Still sounds faaaaabulous.
