It's very important to serve your hors d'ouerves on at least three different shapes of crackers and celery chunks. And what seem to be pickle slices as well.

On top the squishy vaguely meatlike substance I see (besides the aforementioned pimiento olive eyes) little onions, quartered hard boiled egg slices, pimiento strips, green pepper strips, what may be a slice of lime, and on the right just above the inset, an entire tiny gherkin sliced lengthwise and fanned out. Seems an awful lot of trouble for something people are just going to eat in one bite.

A lot of kids do that. My son went through a cat stage when he was 3, but it never went as far as wanting to eat "cat food."
