Is that underwear ad really really for real? Because wow.

They're all great though. I think the tennis players are my favorite.

I'm pretty sure it is. You can still get Munsingwear (http://www.vermontcountrystore.com/products/clothing/mens-clothing/mens-underwear.html), and tushie fit is still a priority, as well as the kangaroo pouch in the front. Somebody's given that stuff a lot of thought!

Well if you're a wrestler you have to have a different fit, but the ad itself is precious!

Kangaroo pouch? Well, first of all, only female kangaroos have pouches. Second, kangaroo pouches are to hold offspring. I guess it's for future potential offspring? They may have put a lot of thought into it, but what were they thinking? I'm so confused!

OMG. Thank you for making me laugh. I simply cannot believe that Munsingwear ad is real, but I love it!

I love the last one so much. it's hard not to read too much into '50s ads sometimes. like, the exaggerated smiles just do not look platonic.

Maybe some of the older ones they didn't but the Johnny Walker ad is from the 80s (I'm pretty sure) and they definitely had a clue by then! I would like to know what publication the Johnny Walker ad is from because it does appear to be marketed toward gay men. Many of the ads from that campaign featured two women referring to a guy that one of them seemed to be dating so this one seems to fit that profile. "I met a new guy. He's great! Oh, there is this little problem with alcoholism, but he has so many other good qualities! No, really, everything is fine."

Gay or not, that Bellows Partners Choice stuff looks delightful. Apparently they don't make it any more.

It's good to remember that back then two men could be close friends and nobody would think anything unusual about it. Also from our perspective in this time there's the stereotype that gay men are good dressers. Back then all men were good dressers. The stereotype of what gay men looked like was different then and this was not it.
