"Don't ask for a raise" and..

"Pay Your Taxes Willingly"

"Pay Off Your Debts, all of them"

I hate this ad.

In any event, we never learned from it.

I do like the Use it up, etc. motto. Good words to live by. Compare this to Bush's post 9-11 speech: go shopping!

But don't tell me not to ask for a raise! (Because I'm too shy to ask anyway so you don't have to).

"Use it up...Wear it out. Make it do...Or do without."

If only more Americans were willing to do this today. Today it's "go shopping". Yup..because buying more crap that you don't need and adding more to your debt isn't the problem, it's the solution!

Yep, it's still good advice.

Yeah, why be paid fairly for your labor? What?

Also by September '45 the war was over! (Though the copy for this ad was probably done months before)

"What good is a raise if your living costs go up even faster?"

Yeah, we've been asking ourselves that for a few years here at my house.

Costs are going to go up even if you don't get a raise.

Reminds me of a saying I heard somewhere: "Why do they call this a 'Free' country when it costs so much to live?"

I really didn't read this as "Don't ask for a raise," though the implication is probably there and I ignored it. I saw this more as approaching it from the other side: keep cost of living down for the consumers in your neighborhood (if you own a business) and be careful where your money does go, which is always good advice.

Try to imagine the butthurt that would go on if this sort of thing were printed today. Good freaking grief.
