Sugar-free at the time must meannn...yup, cyclamates, banned in '69. Then Fizzies fizzled, after it had been beating the grin off the Kool-Aid pitcher with better sales.

They brought them back a few years ago with some other sweetener, but I haven't had a chance to try them yet. I keep hoping I'll see then in a store somewhere, but I haven't seen them.

I remember them coming back in the mid- to late '90s, because I know my mom bought some when I was a teenager. IDK if they still make them though. I haven't seen them lately either.

Ah, I remember these! For some reason we never could find them when I was a kid, in Los Angeles; we got them as a 'special treat' when we visited our aunt in San Luis Obispo since they only seemed to be on sale there, in the '70's. (Unused/unsold/past 'best use by date' stock, no doubt) :)

it ended up being 99 later on today. and a positively BALMY 48% humidity.

(even the dog demands ice in her waterbowl at those temperatures. so she drinks then needs go to out again. bleargh. apartment living = dog on leash. gahhhh!!)

On Sunday, the heat index in Minneapolis is expected to be about 110, with a dewpoint in the low 80s. Pass me some Fizzies! (Or, alternately, a more temperate climate.)

I'm guessing they would have the same effect as Pop Rocks? I wonder if there was also an urban legend about a kid eating Fizzies whole and his stomach blowing up. There had to have been!
