1000 sheets on a roll? Must have been pretty thin, but that's OK - presumably you could fold it as many times as necessary since it's "soft as old linen".
Yeah, you do have to wonder, if the 1 ply Scott tissue is supposed to be luxury, what they were supposedly wiping with over in old blighty. Manilla envelopes? Leaves? Sandpaper?
When I was in high school in the 80s we went to the UK one summer and stayed in a dorm. OMG the toilet paper was like waxed paper and I'm not even lying. That and prostitutes were a huge shock for this sheltered American teen!
I have too and you're right, but I admit there were times I really missed the good stuff. I have allergies and I had the same problem finding good tissues. Fortunately, Kleenex is a worldwide brand and I could usually track it down somewhere.
