 I did not know that it used to be the Dominion of Canada. Like most Americans, I probably know more about our neighbor to the south than our neighbor to the north. That's what you Canadians get for not causing more trouble!

I love the story that the BNA Act (what created the modern confederacy) was drafted in a drunken spree and passed as a special order of British Parliament. Then the MPs came back into Commons to debate fiercely about a dog license bill.

"Okay, Canada wants to be... Canada. Sure thing. Notwithstanding, my constituents will not stand for dog fees!"

You also don't have a good holiday for Americans to use to use as an excuse to get drunk. Just pick a random day on the calendar, refer to it in French and make up some story about a historical event happening on that day. No one here will know the difference or question it. Just don't pick May 5th or March 17th. Those are taken.

More of a justification really. When you have a "reason" then you're "celebrating," not just drinking for the sake of drinking. For example, when we celebrate Mardi Gras, which means "Fat Tuesday," we are celebrating the state of being obese on a Tuesday.

Well, it definitely should be! If you are spending your Valentine's Day alone, then you may wish to get soused to the point where you "Screw it! I need a [man][woman] like fish needs a bishicle." But then if you do have a date, well, as Mr. Nash so eloquently noted, "liquor is quicker"!

I think the libations companies are missing a big opportunity here!
