I'm tempted to snark that Mr and Mrs Carolan obviously have other ways of keeping warm - but I won't. %-P

Consider that at the time, six kids wasn't considered excessive, particularly for a farm family. ("Put 'em to work!")

Oh my eyes. That harvest gold and the paneling that makes it look like there's no exit except through the window...!

I think I spy a door in the background but it's well camouflaged!

No house with six boys is that neat, tidy and clean. Hell, no house with any boys is that neat, tidy and clean.

YES. Especially with that light carpeting-- and on a farm!

As an experienced mess-creator (and boy), I have to agree.

Well, you need the boys to work the farm, so. But with 1/3 as many boys on my hands, I sincerely feel sorry for Mrs. Carolan. We are not talking about an insubstantial amount of dirt, here.

Mom looks either exhausted or stoned, I can't make up my mind. And we had a similar footstool when I was a kid. One day I found out the legs would unscrew from the seat, so I took them all off and put them back on, I don't know why. The stool was always a little tiny bit wobbly after that.

I used to take them off & put them back on at random times. Confused the hell out of my Mom.

Kind of a sad comment..

My mother's father grew up on a farm and he was not allowed to be inside of the house only to eat meals and sleep. Otherwise, he was to be outside working.

I'm assuming to keep a farm house that neat...with 6 boys...you'd have to insist they stay outside most of the time!

Mrs. Carolan had no hopes of getting any grandchildren out of the one in the striped shirt on the far right, but the international adoption route ended up working out and her "special boy" and his life partner, Brad, couldn't be happier! Of course, she told Pawpaw Gene that their son had gotten a Chinese girl pregnant on a business trip and he and Brad live together to save money. It's just better this way.

Aww! That's sweet, but if it's the way the kid seems to adore the photographer, I'm a bit creeped out! ;)

Well no wonder the house is spotless even with six boys there. He's mommy's little french maid helper.

She's clutching that boy to her lap like "I love all my boys but I'll never let that man anywhere near my vagina again."

Wish a couple of the lads had gone over to the drapes and spread 'em out to give us a better look at the design.
