It's amazing how many different medicines grapefruit interferes with, form blood pressure medication to exzema treatments.

Yup, furanocumamdins and flavinoids. Ups absorption of almost everything. Not always bad, though: citrus juices in general can increase iron uptake and stave off things like age-related chronic leukemias.

Don't forget anti-convulsants like Tegretol. I was on the stuff for 2 years and missed Ocean Spray Ruby Red greatly. :(

I have a feeling that Capt. A Beall Fitzgerald is not only a "million-mile" pilot, but a long-standing member of the mile-high club! I'll bet Stewardess Hilda Jane Young could vouch for that.

And, no, I never thought of "scurvy" as some archaic disease of the plague-ridden East. I thought it was an archaic disease of sailors regardless of where they came from.

Me too. I always pictured sailors having to drink glasses of lime or lemon juice so they wouldn't get scurvy, which I thought made you shrivel up when I was a kid.

Odd fact: I had insomnia one night (too much caffeine) and came across one of those mystery-diagnosis shows. Kid of 3 or 4 had these weird symptoms, ma and dad didn't know what the hell was wrong with him. Turns out he had SCURVY because all he would eat was oatmeal and the parents said they "didn't know it would hurt him" if that was all he would eat!

Really good book on the history of scurvy and how it finally got solved (against lots of official resistance)

I know of at least two men who got scurvy as adults... from living on booze/drugs and chips.

Well heck yeah he's in the mile high club. Why do you think he's so concerned about having good circulation and 'recuperative powers?'

I recall reading that people who megados on vitamin C and then stop cold turkey can often develop scurvy.

Awww... googling indicates that a Hilda Jane Young married Daniel Moore (a Navy Pilot) in 1943. She died of Cancer in 1968.

Lovely. They plug it as an energy booster for men, but for women it's good for losing weight. Ugh.
