My mom's done that with pencils for as long as I can remember. Always eraser up. I never have understood the logic of that.

If you're me it's because if you store them point up, you wind up stabbing yourself in the palm every single time you reach for a pencil.

My dad has that pencil sharpener in industrial grey. It's a serious bit of pencil sharpening kit. I particularly like the extendable pincer bit that holds the pencil in the perfect spot.

I'm jealous. I went to buy a sharpener a few weeks ago at a big box office supply store and all I could find are the junky plastic kind. What I want are the kind that were bolted to my teacher's desk in elementary school.

Amazon has crankable pencil sharpeners! Not from Staedtler, but from X-Acto, Stanley Bostitch, Boston, and El Casco. The Boston model is a vacuum-mount which I do not recommend; the others are screw-mount, ranging in price from $12.49 to $399.00. Some even have microbial protection (how did H. sapiens ever survive as far as the 21st century without microbial protection on its pencil sharpeners?).

I'm not a bit online shopper, but I'll look into it. Thanks! I agree about the vacuum-mount. Doesn't work.

Maybe the microbial protection is to keep the pencil sharpeners from getting sick from all those snotty nosed kids! For real, how did any of us survive childhood without antimicrobial surfaces and Clorox wipes?

Staedtlers are still the pencils I use for art. Those mechanical colored pencils look awesome.

Staedtler Mars Lumograph! The only pencil I ever buy!

*squints* And I want those mechanical pencils with the colored leads, too.
