Ring Of Bright Water is a charming 1969 movie about a couple who adopts a wild otter called Mij. Mij finds a lady love - but she gets caught in a fishing net and drowns. And then a farmer chops Mij in half with a shovel. Umm they don't warn for that in the trailer.

This movie possibly scarred me for life.

*screams*

I learned a song of that title and all I knew was that it was based on something about an otter. I am SO INCREDIBLY GLAD that my exceptionally oversensitive child/tween self did not know this information.

Whoa, THAT movie's off my To See list. Thanks for the warning.

I knew there was a reason I never wanted to see this again. Repression worked for me!
Add it to the list...
Old Yeller
Where The Red Fern Grows
The Yearling

Sheesh!

+1,000!

Egad! I suppose I am sort of glad that movies like these made people care about animals enough to cry and be traumatized, but Jayzuz.... I hated those movies (though I thankfully never saw the one featured here....).

I didn't see Where The Red Fern Grows but I read the book and nearly cried. And I was an adult at the time!

I'm really glad I've been warned about Ring of Bright Water too. Wow.

I vaguely remembered that the otters died but I didn't remember (or had blocked) exactly what happened. I am definitely going to be sure to warn some of my friends about this.

I feel your pain, that part of the film replays in my head every single time I think of otters :0(

ftr I loved the book this is based on when I was a kid :( Unless I am forgetting a lot, it was waaayy less traumatic than the movie (which I have never seen). It's probably stilla round my parents' house somewhere.

Now I know why my parents wouldn't let me see that movie as a child. I'm NOT joking, and I'm very glad they didn't. I would've been traumatized-- I'd be traumatized now, as an adult! D:
