Oh man, I *love* it. What a gorgeous dress, even in black and white. Although this ad reminds me that they had different sizes for ladies clothes back then, because that waist is suuuuper tiny and certainly not a size 10 by today's standard sizes.
Sizes 10 to 20? I know clothing sizes have been supersized over the years, but I didn't know it was by that much. Today, that model would be a 0 or a 2 at most. Of course, these days, they would also Photoshop another 15 pounds off her.
When I was going to be married at age 18, we went around to various aunties' houses to see about borrowing a wedding dress to save money. One of my aunts said "I don't think it will fit, but we'll get it out and see." She had been a size 12 in those days, and the waist on that dress wouldn't fit her own 13 year old daughter (who was tiny herself). Sally said the dress was a 12 to fit her bust but the waist had been taken in to an 8. I saw the photos. I believed it. (that was her natural waist, without girdling or corsetting.)
It looks like she's absolutely refusing the joint offered her by the beatnik lying on a fur rug, as they listen to records. "I said no Henri! Carter and I have to be at the museum gala tonight. I think you should leave."
