This ad seems almost Alice in Wonderland-ish to me, for some reason. Also, I wasn't aware that iced coffee was popular in the early part of the 20th century.
Oh yes! Post-WWI was a huge time for coffee culture. Think of it-- lots of empires (Austro-Hungarian, Prussian, Ottoman, etc.) were broken or weakened after the war, which led to a lot of what's now considered bohemian culture. Where better to be bohemian, than a coffee house? And hot weather is no reason to give up that most cosmopolitan of beverages, yo.
I read the tag line on the can as "Made in at the the cup table."
Don't get me started on that crazy script though. Gwashmglons? Sounds like some sort of warrior robot that... omg! Run! he Gwashmglons are attacking! With giant spoons!
That is a mental picture, which is in both parts adorable and frightening. Now I imagine a kitchen floor filled with small, but determined Gwashmglons...
