I guess I never thought of how babies' stockings stayed on back then.

...or you could just try shorter socks for baby. :)

So, they clip to the diaper? But dipers get wet and changed a lot. And rubber pants aren't so waterproof when you poke holes in them. What do you attach this to?

The diapers are cloth. You dont need to poke a hole through them. You open the clip, the cloth goes over that oval shapped knob, then the metal clamp goes back over the top and snaps down. Have you ever seen sheet suspenders? It's the same concept.

You have that upside-down. The pin goes in the diaper and the garter clasp attaches to the stocking. Check out the picture in the ad.

Even so, its a cloth diaper. So you arent ripped a hole in rubber.

Yeah, but you'd have to change flats, which were the diapers in use then, pretty often. I guess, if you were using pins anyway, it would just be repeating that step again, but it's still not something I'd want to have to do, especially with a newborn! I've used garter belts, and I do use cloth diapers, but the thought of combining those two things seems like a lot of work.

I never really thought about babies's socks and how they stayed up, either. I always laugh when I see men wearing sock garters in movies and TV shows, though.

All I can imagine is those socks and garters pulling the kid's diaper down even more than normal.

I don't think I would have wanted to use this, but when they were babies, my kids were really bad about pulling off their socks in public places and flinging them away and I usually wouldn't notice until it was too late. At home, my kids wore a lot of mismatched socks!

Oh, the things people did before elastized fabrics. . .

I wouldn't think babies would need socks high enough to require these.

I guess that's why we've never heard of them. That fashion couldn't have lasted long.

Many houses were colder then. I imagine parents trying anything that could keep the kids warm - especially when they were big enough to crawl on the floor.

Think about all the kids who still wear leggings/stockings? I would consider this as similar?

yes
