I can't help but think that mineral water makes an ineffective laxative. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Edit: Wow, apparently it did have strongly laxative properties, and apparently it isn't the only one. Wonder why they've lost popularity around here?

A laxative from French Lick Springs, eh? I'm not entirely certain I'm ready to write that down in my book.

IKR? It sounds like some kind of porno move. "OK, now give him the French Lick!"

Sold at fountains everywhere? Fountains. I miss fountains. They were like modern day starbucks. Place to hang out, socialize. Fountains. It's just cool.

I miss them, too. There was a really nice one down the street from the house I grew up in. It was in a drugstore that filled prescriptions, sold candy and cigars, all that nifty stuff. They mixed Cokes and phosphates and made fantastic sundaes. Man, do I miss that place!

We have one downtown. I keep meaning to take myself there for a burger and an egg cream.

Do it now, before it disappears forever. :(

Maybe I'll do that after work tomorrow or Friday. Possibly.

What struck me as weird was the idea of ordering this at a soda fountain. Can you imagine a kid doing this in front of his friends? Or, worse, the neighborhood bully who won't let him go to the john when the stuff kicks in. I have this whole scenario in my mind starring George McFly and Biff Tannen (yeah, I know that was the 50s, not the 30s).

My inner 12-year-old is giggling at "French Lick" Springs.

Why did the hyphenate "mineral" at the top of the page? It looks weird. Having your column even is not that important!

Somehow, all I can picture is people standing in the springs and waiting for bottles to bubble full by hand. Not the most hygienic-sounding product, I have to say.

There's a Big Lick River in Kentucky, as I recall from several road trips between Ohio and Tennessee. And now in NC, I keep seeing/hearing about the French Broad River. French Broad? I keep imagining it's named after Susy from the Skydivers. The white settlers were sure some strange folk.
