From what I can gather, it won't really be so much a remake as a film adaptation of the musical. Well, okay, I can kind of see that. If it's a different genre, it won't really be competing with the original film and it might encourage people to see the original, especially an entire generation that has been born since this film was made. In fact, it might (dare I say it?) encourage people to read the book! :O
Ugh! Don't get me started. I completely agree. Having said that, I do like all the other Best Picture nominees for that year, but it should have won in some other category. I can see Whoopi losing to Meryl Streep or even Anne Bancroft for Anges of God, but Geraldine Page for The Trip to Bountiful? Really? I mean, it was okaaaay, buuuuut . . . reeeeeally?
The only part of the show I like, but not really enjoy, is when they show all the people who died. There's always a few surprises there.
