Perfume advertising -- like almost all other print advertising -- used to be much more print-heavy than it is today:

In six shades: white girl, white girl, white girl, white girl, white girl, and white girl who's been in the sun.

(Good Housekeeping, June 1933)

Seriously? It's not the giant ass hat, almost ankle-length dress and gloves? That would have been my guess.

Nothing to do with it. Neither has living in a country where it's drizzly 11 out of every 7 days.

Nope. Must be the powder that is so light 'it will cling for hours' that keeps the sun at bay.

I love Yardley products. Their lavender soap is one of the only things I can wash my face with.

You can tell by her figure that the woman probably hasn't had kids get, which is good because as soon as she pops out a daughter, she'll have to compete with her little girl looks.

The older lady second to the left in the dark hat and the portly gentleman in the top hat on the right seem to be exchanging knowing glances! Oh, yeah, they're getting it on, and they use the park as their hook-up site. But unfortunately, Esmeralda (on the left in the white hat) had to tag along today. She knows all about it. She acts like she disapproves, but really she's just jealous.

Heck, if she does get pregnant, she'll probably not be able to stand up. Not with those legs that are as narrow as the legs of that chair she's standing next to. She almost makes Olive Oyl look hefty.

No hips, either, so I'm assuming a very narrow birth canal. Even if she could manage to get preggers at all with so little meat on her bones, I think a c-section scar would be in her future (did they have those by the 1930s?)

It's cool the way you can still buy a bottle of the Lavender cologne with that pic on it.

I've got a bottle in the bathroom...

My Grandma was still using their lavender powder up to when she passed (R.I.P, Grandma). She didn't have a 'pink-and-ivory petaled flower' complexion, but she smelled great. :)
