This type of hair holder was very popular in the 1970s -- I had versions in leather, pewter, and tortoiseshell. But nobody ever called them barrettes. Nobody really knew what they were called, but they were definitely not barrettes, nor were they pins or clips. We usually ended up calling them "stick things." They were actually very comfortable and gentle on your hair. But I never had one that advertised anything.
"Don't let your girls get caught with uncontained hair." Sheesh! Just requite them to wear a hijab and be done with it! (I know, I know, the ad is supposed to be tongue-in-cheek.)
Still a thumbs-down from me for purely practical reasons. I have never been able to keep on of those things in my hair, especially if I was doing physical labor like working in a restaurant. I would be messing with it constantly. Caps and a pony tail holder for long hair make much more sense. But at least it's not as ugly as the hats Burger King employees had to wear. Hmm. That gives me an idea . . .
