Oh man, Night of the Comet. A film chock-full of bitchin' 80s hair and music. It's even got a "girls go shopping" sequence, complete with Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun. It's a rad movie.
Oh, and it even has romance (as per the theme)! Reggie, one of our heroines, survives the effect of the comet by sleeping with a guy named Larry in the projection booth. Okay, so that's not romantic. But, there's another - hotter! - guy named Hector (played by a very young and very cute Robert Beltran, of Star Trek: Voyager fame). They hit it off, but he has to go check and see if his family is all right.
HECTOR: What'll you give me if I come back? (he takes Reggie's hand)
REGGIE (considering): Texas? Florida... Florida and Texas.
HECTOR (bargaining): Florida, Texas, and... Hawaii.
REGGIE (giggling): Hawaii? But I wanted Hawaii!
(here)
Really though, it's a cute romance.
Everybody loves Wanda. Archie Leach is particularly smitten:
ARCHIE: You make me feel free.
WANDA: Free?
ARCHIE: Wanda, do you have any idea what it's like being English? Being so correct all the time, being so stifled by this dread of, of doing the wrong thing, of saying to someone "Are you married?" and hearing "My wife left me this morning," or saying, uh, "Do you have children?" and being told they all burned to death on Wednesday. You see, Wanda, we'll all terrified of embarrassment. That's why we're so... dead. Most of my friends are dead, you know, we have these piles of corpses to dinner. But you're alive, God bless you, and I want to be, I'm so fed up with all this. I want to make love with you, Wanda. I'm a good lover - at least, used to be, back in the early 14th century. Can we go to bed?
WANDA: Yeah.
They even get a storybook ending: Archie and Wanda were married in Rio, had seventeen children, and founded a leper colony. ;)
