Absolutely! And I think it's important to note that the ad makes it clear she is serving food at her own dinner party, not as a maid at a white folk's party like most ads with African American women of that time would show.
I'm guessing this ad was for a black-oriented publication such as Ebony. In 1962, general-interest magazines probably wouldn't have featured a black person in an ad that would reach many white southern homes.
Yep, Ebony. I love the vintage Ebony ads because although many of them are the same ones you would find in any other publication of the time, there are also many like this one that feature African Americans living the good life and being glamourous. What you DON'T typically see are ads with Aunt Jemima making pancakes for the colonel.
