John Houseman made other commercials in the 70s, including for Plymouth and even McDonalds. He made a few for Puritan Oil. His very curmudgeonliness made him a great pitchman, it gave him rock-solid integrity- whatever he told you had to be true, even if he lectured like a law professor.

I loved John Houseman's ads and you're right, he could sell snowmobiles in the rain forest if someone could write his some scholarly sounding BS copy.

I ran into an unshaven, unkempt John Houseman coming out of the Paris movie theater in NYC sometime in the 80s ; he tried to disguise himself and failed.
