I love seeing Lucille Ball out of her "Lucy" character.

Ha, you know, my parents use that phrase ALL. THE. TIME. and I always just thought it was one of those things people say that doesn't really mean anything. A made-up word, if you will. Which is clearly *is*, but I didn't realize it was the name of an actual brand of shoe polish!

yes

I love pre-Lucy Lucille Ball. I can't stand Lucy.

Hey, I wore a dress almost exactly like that to my rehearsal dinner. No hat or gloves, though. :(

I like how it says you can clean your own shoes at home like this was such an out-there idea! I tend to think of people in the past as being more self-reliant and less dependent on the service industry, but they weren't always, especially with the abundance of cheap, exploitable labor.

"You say I can clean my own shoes and not have the colored boy on the corner do it? Next thing you'll tell me is that I can wash my own clothes at home with a machine and not take them to a Chinaman. Why would I want to do so many chores when God made all these less-fortunate people to do them for me?"

She was great in Stage Door, I think the same year, with Kate Hepburn. Wearing a tailored man's-style suit , smoking, Lucy looked terribly chic.
