[identity profile] urbantravels.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] vintageads

It's been ages since I read about the Radio Nurse design, but as suggested by this ad, one of the reasons for making the "nurse" (receiver) nicer-looking than the "ear" (transmitter) is that the transmitter is holed up with the baby (or invalid) but the receiver is out in parts of the house where it's more visible, perhaps to guests.

Other sources indicate that the Radio Nurse cost about $30 in 1937/38, which would be about $450 in today's money.  So hardly an item for the working classes.

This is my first attempt at posting an ad so let me know if I did something horribly wrong.

You know that dog thing in the upper right hand corner is just waiting for the right moment.

I wonder if broadcasts of the baby's sleeping were sponsored by a cigarette.
(This IS 1937 we're talking about.....)

Did you know it was designed by Japanese-American sculptor Isamu Noguchi? A set in good shape sells now for about $5,000.
