oh I dunno ... surviving carbon monoxide sounds pretty damn auspicious to me. that could easily have been much worse.

Boston is famous for its Triple Decker homes. We have many and they are Victorian. Manly produced 1865-1900. There are variations, like my smaller two story one. Many generations live through-out the home. Grandparents on the first, Mom and Dad on the second, One of the Kids on the top. Some combo like that.

Here is a picture of a typical Triple Decker.

Here is my little home in the Snow.

Glad you're alright, and that your house saved you from your furnace.

So glad to hear you're alright!!! ...and feeling a new appreciation for my husband's insistence on getting carbon monoxide alarms as well as smoke alarms when we moved into this house. =8-o

Oh goodness sorry to hear that! Glad to hear you're OK, and hope you get things better. I guess drafty houses can be a good thing (coming from a super-drafty house built in the 1800s).

Wow - that's awful! We've got two carbon monoxide alarms because we heat with gas. Also, it costs, but it's a good idea to get a yearly inspection.

Can you plug in some electrical heat until the furnace gets fixed? It'll cost but it's better than freezing.

Can you beg, borrow or steal any more heaters? I agree you have to be careful with the electric, but if you make sure the heaters are on different fuses (sorry, we still have fuses in our very old house) - that way you can have more than one going?

Yeah, I'm a little nervous in case that is bad advice.

You probably know this about kerosene heaters, but you'll need some ventilation in the house for safety - like crack a window open - which is why I never used our kerosene heater. If the heater doesn't come with the instructions, please google for how to use it properly.

Consider wrapping your water pipes in insulation so they don't freeze and trying to live/sleep in one small room with the heater (esp if you don't have more than one.)

Take care!
