The Candies

amazingly high quality collection of Japanese commercials from the 70s advertising an aray of products including TVs, soups,
candy, and even airconditioners,  featuring "the Candies,"  an all girl group composed of
Yoshiko Tanaka (I have no idea if she's related to the Seiji Tanaka of my last post. that would be very awesome though)
Ran Ito, and Miki Fujimura.

The group lasted from 1973 to 1977, disbanded because they couldn't take they're popularity anymore.  And they were very popular at the time.

I love the one with them dressed as clowns. So friggin' adorable!!!  :3

I think Yoshiko (or "girl on right") is my favorite. ;P I'm assuming it became part of their act to almost always be lined up the same way?

Anyhow, fun stuff! Japanese advertising tends to have that hyperkinetic charm to it...

I kinda liked the one with the television remote. It was funny and cute.

Also, is it just me, or does the waware curry look kind of a lot gross? like the Duncan Heines bowls of microwavable beef stew dumplings that don't have to be refrigerated? (however, those bowls are occasionally SUPER DELICIOUS, when I have a craving for that kind of thing, so...)

I liked that one too, especially since the remote looked a lot like a Taser! It was cute how it would physically turn the nob! Were there any American TVs like that?

I also liked then in their old-school gangster costumes.

Is it me or are the TV commercials like the Netflix ones?

Anyway, thanks so much for posting this! Those were all so adorable.

Were they all called Natalie?

Oh, okay. Also, when I think of "Natalie" and "boat" in the same thought, I don't get a good connotation.

I love that the girls don't look dated. No crazy hair or blue eyeshadow. The way they looked then would fit right in today. I just find it very interesting.

I thought the same thing. If you watched these videos out of context, it might take awhile to realize these were made in the 70s.
