all crappy editorializing aside - I bet those suckers were horrible in the snow....and heavy as lead to push if stuck in a ditch.....sheesh!

On the plus side, it's unlikely to get pushed around by high winds during a blizzard.

The only good thing about them really: Heavy, and you had studded tires in the winter.

Let's not forget chains: clank, clank, clank...

We still use chains in Oregon - no salt on the roads!

Exactly. My mother had a 1963 Cadillac and it was like a greased pig on snowy roads. So much for weight=traction. You'd just tap the brakes and it would start sliding!

Could they have got any more hyperbole into that ad?

I lived in Kenosha (home of Nash!) for about 5 years and there are still a TON of enthusiasts there, so I've seen a lot of old Nashes around. Those things are like tanks!

Have you ever been to the auto museum in Hartford?

Nope. To confess, I've had my fill of vintage auto mania. I lived in the Detroit burbs from birth until my 30s, so I think I've had enough classic car culture to last a few lifetimes. =)

The museum specializes in Kissel cars... they were one of the chosen American makes of Celebrities in the 20's. Amelia Earhart had a model called "The Gold Bug" that was very cool. They were made in Hartford and Kenosha.

The front grill did NOT tip forward that agressively. I love how they "adjust" the drawings in these ads. Not to mention: LOOK AT THE TYPOGRAPHY! Life before Helvetica!

These old cars were NOT good in the snow. LOL

Not crazy about the slanted, hanging text, but I have to admit it is different and was probably a pain to typeset. And why did someone dump marshmallow cream on the mailbox? No matter, I still like this ad. Even if the car didn't really look like that, you wish it did. Whitewalls, suicides, split windshield, awesome grillage! And I could do some things with that hood!

The line about how "its dancing wheels hardly touch the snow" is not nearly as inspiring as the copywriter seems to think it is. Even before I read the other replies, I was imagining having the car merrily take off across the snowy pavement in a direction wholly other than the one the driver intended or was aiming.

(I've lived all my adult life in central Arizona. I've never driven in snow and quite frankly the thought terrifies me.)

What's really amazing is that these cars are so light on their tires, the body of the car doesn't get any snow/slush/salt on it. Or maybe the car is so Springtime fresh, the snow melts and evaporates before it can stick.
