Actually, it looks like "all our supplies" consisted of 3 candles, a hammer, 20 feet of rope, a poncho, a portable record player, and the aforementioned Canadian Club. That does kind of sound like a shopping list made up by a couple drunk guys.
Either the gravity is so much lower in Australia so that 900 pound stalactite took a few seconds to fall or that was one huge cavern.
