From a promotional recipe booklet, circa, I'm guessing, 1965-ish. I'm not 100% sure alcohol is the only intoxicant in the mix here...

...typical American families have place settings for 50 people?

At any rate, that's a recipe book I'd love to have. Kaluha desserts!

Mrs. Harrington remembered the Kahlua, but she was so distracted by Betsy's constant sitar playing that she forgot the forks for the banquet.

I somehow always thought that Kahlua was Hawai'ian, or generally Polynesian, at the very least. My whole life has been a lie.

I really like the candle-in-the-bottle thing. I think my Mom's done that before.

I remember most of 'em being done with chianti bottles that had wicker-type stuff wrapped around them though.

As late as the 80s, there were still kits with extra drippy candles to make the things.

"Typical American families"? The KENNEDYS didn't need that much seating space.

(But boy, would I love a look at that recipe book. cough*hint-hint*cough)

Well it came down to either a dining room that seats 100 or a bowling alley when they were planning the new mansion. Unfortunately, the Brunswick equipment just didn't match the decor they were going with for the rest of the home.
