That is SO not how 'She looked eighteen' would be used today. I thought this was going to be an exploitation film at first"

Yeah, my immediate thought was "...but unfortunately for you, the judge wasn't buying it."

This ad reminds me of that line in Clueless. LMAO

Tai: Do you think she's pretty?
Cher: No, she's a full-on Monet.
Tai: What's a monet?
Cher: It's like a painting, see? From far away, it's OK, but up close, it's a big old mess.

I had to look it up. I forgot the exact quote. And I love this movie. So it was either put it in the dvd player or look it up online. Yea, online - already on and much quicker. lol

Just my type, as Donovan used to say.

Well, that just popped into my head.

Don't understand what's going on with the people in the ad. It looks like it was repurposed from some murder mystery, like the gent is restraining the brunette from devouring the miniature blonde. Or something.

My favourite bit of that would have to be up the very top: The most complete book ever written on how to powder properly. How long is it? A whole page?

I'd love to see the book--I love reading vintage makeup manuals. I wish I could get my hands on a copy.

Me too - I used to read my mom's Nancy Taylor books (she took the course as part of her business college degree!) over and over. I remember them specifying to press the powder into the foundation in a downward direction to hold down the tiny hairs on your face.

It's usually some shade of cream.

"Rachel" was the "darker" powder shade, aimed I guess at olive skin tones. If you were black I imagine you were shit out of luck. (What power shades WERE there for actual dark skins?)

I'm not sure I want "tiny clinging wafers" on my face.

Actually, if you think about it, it's no weirder than some of the stuff advertised nowadays. I think Elizabeth Arden has some moisturizer that has "tiny spheres" that penetrate your skin--same thing, no? :D

I think that they just make up shit to keep selling makeup. So I don't wear it.

I just wonder where this company was. I live in Boston...I'm just wishing their address was on that ad.

Hehe. I love the word 'youthifying'. Going to have to try and use that in conversation! :-)

Yeah, I had to say it out loud to myself to hear what it sounds like. (The verdict is: silly.) Was "rejuvenating" (or whichever other synonym) considered too fancy, or what?
