A pox on the person who decided that these costumes needed full-body pictures and labels to identify the characters, thus ruining the actual costume. Look at these! They looked fine as they were!

I had a Lemon Meringue (why, I don't know- I guess she was the last character available) and my brother had a Darth Vader. He might've had an Optimus Prime, too; I recall the mask, anyway. I still have a She-Ra costume in its box. Our friend next door had a weird Cooper that was a three-headed clown. It had two extra inflatable heads attached at the top. Looking back, that was pretty effing creative of them.

You mean like those Hulk costumes that have the Hulk's face plastered on it?Like, would the Hulk really wear clothes with his own face on it...?
I'd even prefer to wear the age-old balloon grape costume than that.
These Sesame St. ones are darling, though. I'd totally be the Count.

Yeah, that's the kind. I think the Simpsons once mentioned the same flawed logic. If the adults in the neighborhood didn't recognize the emerald green bodybuilder without a label, adding one isn't going to be much help. Unless toward the end of popularity for these costumes, it was cheaper to recycle clip art than hire artists to paint full-sized replicas.

Agreed, though, that this batch looks great for what they are. I would've gone for the Count or Grover. I'm all about the cape.

Ah the joys of hard plastic masks & decorated plastic bags!

I remember I had a tweety bird mask that was like these. I never had the rest of the outfit, though.

Bet these are worth a lot of $ now.

Plaid Stallions (http://www.plaidstallions.com/) is a site that puts up retro items like this. It's not original to the ad.

The Big Bird one looks kinda terrifying. I like the Super Grover one, though.

It reminds me of Trumpy from that MST3K episode.... "Pod People"

Hey, it does look like Trumpy! I was reminded of that weird plague doctor mask from London in 1666.

Yeah totally. That's one freaky costume. I immediately pictured of a bunch of bank robbers wearing the Big Bird masks in a movie.

Man, Plaid Stallions would make an awesome band name.

Also, when were they spelling it as "HOLLOWEEN"?

I remember these! And I kind of miss those old Halloween costumes with the plastic mask & the "plastic bag" over the body. I had a Wicket the Ewok one. Good times. . .

If I were my seven-year old self, I'd be pretty terrified of these costumes, especially the Big Bird one.

I remember these kinds of costumes. I remember how I hated that moisture would build up from my breath on the inside of the mask. Yuck!
