I'm so glad that we as Americans aren't really expected to make sacrifices anymore. Unless, you know, we're in the armed services or we have a loved one who is.

See, in the old days, they didn't come right out and malign your politics or patriotism. They used emotional blackmail instead. And it worked, because now I'm wondering if they still sell war bonds.

not to diminish the seriousness of the message, but how exactly would a p.o.w. get a letter from me anyway? did our sworn enemies happily deliver mail to it's foreign prisoners? did we have covert couriers that snuck into enemy war prisons to stuff the mail between the bars?

POW mail (http://www.kg6gb.org/prisoner_of_war_mail.htm) was transported by the Red Cross under the terms of the Geneva Conventions.

Albert Dorne (the illustrator) had a fascinating (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albert_Dorne) life (http://illustrationart.blogspot.com/2006/07/albert-dorne.html). Lots more of his work here (http://www.flickr.com/photos/leifpeng/sets/1675425/).
