I had a really neat little green sweater made from nylon much like the one in the ad, but mine had a little collar instead of the ribbed neckline, and the collar had white butterflies embroidered on it. I'd have to say that it was from the 50s. That sweater was so comfortable! except then it got to be too small for me, so I gave it to my sister :( I mean, the points of the collar were lying on my shoulders, not around my collarbone. So, a bit small. :/
In one of Shirley Jackson's semi-autobigraphical stories (worked into Raising Demons), she explains the price of her blouse -- an exorbitant (for the early 1950s) US$11.98 -- by saying, "It's nylon."
I have a number of these,I was lucky enough to find a pile of them, deadstock, new with tags at a vintage show. They don't pill or shrink and have still retained their color all of these years. The quality is a million times better then 90% of the sweaters you can buy now.
