Funny ad! Now it's used to treat anxiety and/or insomnia when it's used at all, and it's risks are almost identical to barbiturates. Until benzodiazepines came out though, it was the drug of choice for treating anxiety. What's crazy is that it has never been proven that it selectively treats anxiety,it's essentially a sedative.
