All I can think of is how filthy carpets are. Even if they're cleaned, they still have dust and mites and whatever. A flea would suck those kids' blood dry.
OMG that reminds me of all those books I read in the third grade about tiny people, like the Borrowers, where they actually had to use straight pins and the like as swords to fight moths and caterpillars and junk. (Never the really gross bugs, because it's children's books, but damn.)
We used to watch that - it was one of my mother's favorite shows. And I remember going to some amusement park in CA and seeing huge props from the set.
Those are really huge units in the first two examples. I mean, thing is frigging ENORMOUS and in the living room/den/office?!
OH WAIT. What the hell is that in the third? I was thinking it was a toaster and some sort of weird food thing on a counter, but that's a play room?
(But I've lived all my life in Florida and have never so much as seen a furnace or anything except on tv. And once we visited my great-uncle in Pittsburgh and he showed us kids his basement, because it was a frigging novelty, but I don't remember seeing a furnace, maybe it was located elsewhere in the duplex building. SO basically, maybe I just don't know what heating is like elsewhere that doesn't use radiators.)
