( Pizza a-Go-Go (cut for size) )Limelight was a notorious 80s club at the corner of 6th avenue and 21st streets, located in a former church. (I
did go there!) It was part of a chain of clubs located in major cities; the New York one is now, fittingly, the "Limelight Marketplace." (What goes around comes around.)
By far, the defunct club I'd most like to time-travel back to is
Slug's, a bar-turned-jazz-club, which opened in 1965 and closed in 1972—not long after trumpeter Lee Morgan's companion shot him dead at the bar. Not many venues can survive something like that.
The location [
242 East 3rd Street] was home to "
A Real Good Plumber" for several years, and is now a
bakery.
